Clay is just one of the mediums I work with. I owuld love to see who else in here does, share some tips, and I know I would also learn some much needed stuff. I use mostly polymer, altho I used the "old fashioned clay" for years, just could not keep up with the cost. I also use some airdry clays, porcelin, and would love to try silver. catmac

i haven't tried air dry clay yet, but i want to. polymer clay, however, is my main medium! i use it more often than any other craft item, and often incorporate every other craft item into my work with poly clay! |

I use ceramic clay, and fire in my kiln. but do more with the liquid slip and molds. (I have hundreds) I get more into the clay when the grandkids are here, they do some pretty nice stuff! My granddaughter and I even did roses, we were both impressed. I did a seminar with the PMC silver clay which we fired with a little butane torch, it was fun and want to do some more, It wis nice with the diachroic glass that I work with. but haven't gotten back to it yet. I've done some polymer clay stuff. Rudy, if it is polymer clay you have, it will probably be good forever, lol. I had some sculpey that was barely wrapped sitting around for at least 10 years, and when I tried it, it was fine. I've seen that silver clay and it looks cool, but if only they made one that was a gold colour. Michelle

i've heard polymer clay, if properly stored, will last a very long time. i've also opened new packages that were pretty dried out. if that happens, i usually put on a pan of water to boil, to get the air around me warm and moist. i knead the clay (you always do this, but it takes longer if it's drier), and, if necessary, add liquid sculpey. there are also ways to 'leach' the clay if it's too moist.. and, i've found that just about anything you want to try in polymer clay can be learned here: http://www.polymerclaycentral.com/m...nsprojects |

I'm fairly new to clay, other than the mess of sculptures we made in gradeschool.... My son just some PLASTICINE reusable modeling clay.... and the box says it never dries out. He made a pretty amazing car out of it and he wants to keep it. Is there any possible way to dry it out? I don't want to bake it just incase it melts and if we just leave it out, I'm sure it will get squished and ruined. Can I dry it out or should I just get him the clay that can dry? Out of my head and onto the canvas.... that "only your momma could love".... |

Hi gals, I just began to work with porcelain clay, but I don't have a lot of ideas for it yet...I made some pendants and used rubber stamps for designs on them. Only one problem-the clay kind of curls a bit as it dries....maybe I am making the items too thin? Any help would be appreciated as clay is kind of a new venture for me! Pam |

Clay Workers: I have been working with ceramic clays/glazes for many, many years. If I can be of assistance...please feel free to ask. Also, for those of you seeking knowledge about working with ceramic, stoneware or porcelain clays and glazes check out www.CeramicArtsDaily.org. they provide a daily newsletter with tips, hints, and techniques. It's free and very informative. I recently was honored with placing in the Paint-It contest. The attachment shows my piece, an earthenware dish, hand piped and decorated in underglazes. Rudy, I received your reply to my post. Creative Home Arts has asked me for info to do a feature. All was supplied to them yesterday along with a photobucket of a few samples of my ceramic pieces. Shoul appear on website soon. I checked out yours...you are very prolific. I'm looking forward to the day when I no longer have the 9-5 routine and can devote more time to my craft. RG |

i remember that tutorial. i wanted to try it, but never got around to it. it was under the old site. I don't know how long it was up, or if it's still there... or even how to find it again. I would ask the chac web editor... (Jenny, right?) |

Amy-jo, did you ever find your answer? I was flipping through my magazines yesterday and found the article. Do you have Jan/Feb 2006? Michelle, Manitoba Canada

A new adventure for me: (like I need something new in my studio!) When I was in Calif last week, I bought 2 'push molds' and some Fimo to play with. I've been sitting here this morning having loads of fun, making little faces. =) Now??? what am I going to do with them??? HEE! maybe some pins, maybe adding some to gourds...maybe in the center of flowers. (I've done that with porcelain faces) have a fun day ladies! Lillie in Idaho Lil

Lil....I have tons of push molds and other molds ....I use them for pins like you said, also to add as embellishments on a larger project, on cards, and especially as wine glass charms (see pic in my photobucket)!! There are so many of the molds around now, too!!!! Hope you had fun in Calif!!!! catmac...(Maine) Lifetime member, lifetime crafter
