Anyone interested?  We of the last friendship quilt would like to do another one.  This time we want to get it on the quilting thread!  We are not rushing this one, just putting out feelers!!

Yep, I;m interested. Just for fun I looked up some state symbols for Minnesota. there are more things than one knows about. Some are official & some are not. For Mn. they are....Bird...the common loon

    Butterfly...the monarch

    Drink....Milk

    fish...walleye

    Flower...Showy lady slipper

    Fruit...honeycrisp apple

    Gemstone...Lake Superior Agate

    Grain...wild rice

    Muffin...blueberry

    Mushroom...morel

Photo..."Grace" photograhed by Eric Enstrom, 1918, Bovey, Mn. this is a surprise because I have seen this picture many times. It is of an older white haired man giving thanks for the bread & food on the table B4 him. I'll bet lots of you may have seen this.

Tree...Norway or Red Pine    Just some trivia for ya.

I didn't know that picture was the state pic...wow
but I did know some of them were state stuff.
I just noticed a quilt at work.  It is all the fifty states with birds on it.  It was donated and
I don't know what they are doing with it.  But the birds were all embroidered on it.
    It was really neat.
Is that what we are doing, states?
    I am in!!!!

I'm in as long as it isn't due any time soon. I have 2 more baby quilts to make, my daughter's quilt top (2007 Christmas gift!) that needs to be layered and quilted, our friendship quilt blocks to set into a top, and a quilt top that I'm using to teach an "under-privileged" young lady how to sew. I'm a bit overwhelmed with quilting at the moment :)

Oh, I agree Janice...for sure we need a break from the 1st block exchange. I am happy to know what the "theme" of the next one is tho. gives me time to think. (it sometimes takes awhile for great ideas to happen) I am not ready to start anything just yet....I also have lots of loose ends here! baby quilts started, some that need to be started. As usual I have lots of undone projects!

Thanks for starting this, Tinker.   I'm in.  it is amazing what you learn about your state when you start something like this.  Wouldn' it be great if we had at least one block from each state?

Ok, I have started a list of people that want in.  We can just get the names now and decide on date and size at a later time as everyone seems pretty busy with the coming of spring.

I don't know how to quilt (not yet anyway) but I surely did enjoy looking at all the blocks everyone made for the last one, wow you ladies sure are creative and talented!  I do have a question though (even though i'm not going to participate), what if there's more than one person from the same state?  Just curious ladies not meaning to 'stir anything up'.

Well, we aren't sure if we are putting state outline, flowers or whatever yet.  If we all do different state somethings or other it will work out just fine.

Well, I was thinking that also...being me and Pine are both from MN.  But I really don't care..and
we can add something else to it.  Like the flower, bird or whatever and not tell each other.  We can
mark where we live on it also, so that will be fun.  So it could be different in some respect.
    nice...

I wasn't thinking of an outline of my state...because you all know I have done that. but I was thinking of something that represents my state. You all don't want to see the same style block again from me...hopefully I can come up with something interesting & pleasing.

Hi Ladies, you can count me in too!  I did some research on NY and I couldn't believe what I saw - we have a state fossil! Who would have thought! I also think we need a little breathing room before we start this one. I'm not quite as creative as the rest of you ladies so I'll need all the time I can get.  lol

Hey ladies count me in, maybe if more than one is from the same state perhapse they were born in another state . That might give us some variety. Just a thought.

Ok, I'm making a file with everyone that wants in when we decide to start.  I know this is a busy time for everyone.  So we can take a break then, get back to it.

I think it would be  quite a coincidence if 2 people, even from the same state, did the same block so for my part I think it would just add interest.   After all this is blocks of where we live not of the states.

Has anyone given any thought to the size of the block yet?

I was born in Binghamton, NY   My dad was stationed in SD and met my mom.  All of us kids
were born there.  But when my dad got out of the service we moved back here.

I'd definitely like to be involved---if we don't have to begin tomorrow.  I have a few other things to finish first---like the last quilt.

I didn't think the object was to "trace" your home state, I though it was to "represent" your state. If I'm on the wrong track someone please let me know now before the brain-cells burn out on the wrong project LOL
